The Department of Surgery is a group practice specializing in consultation, diagnosis, and treatment of patients who may require operative intervention. Quality patient care to the Midlands of South Carolina community provides the core of our surgical training programs at Palmetto Health Richland and WJB Dorn Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Our general surgeons offer treatment of breast, gastrointestinal and skin malignancies; gallbladder, heartburn and other types of abdominal disease; hernia repair, bariatric surgery for the morbidly obese, disease of the endocrine glands and non-cardiac chest and lung surgery. Laparoscopic surgery (minimally invasive surgery) is now offered to treat many of the conditions listed. Our surgeons are primary providers for trauma and surgical critical care services at Palmetto Health Richland.

Cosmetic and reconstructive surgical services are offered by our plastic surgeons. Liposuction, abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), breast lift and breast enlargement surgery, full and partial eye lift surgery, nose reconstruction/reshaping, and skin resurfacing for scarring through laser treatment are some of the cosmetic services available. Breast reconstruction and procedures to treat skin cancer are additional surgical treatment options offered to our patients.

Through the S.C. Center for Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Disorders, our plastic surgeons participate in a multidisciplinary team providing treatment for infants and children with congenital facial deformities.
