Dr. Zeid M. Keilani joins the General Surgery Division of the Department of Surgery at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in February 2016. Dr. Keilani completed his General Surgery Residency training at Ochsner Clinic Foundation in New Orleans, Louisiana in 2011, followed by a fellowship in Advanced Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery in 2012 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Prior to joining USC Surgery, Dr. Keilani both practiced general and bariatric surgery in Kentucky. Dr. Keilani completed his American Board of Surgery certification in 2012 and later received a certificate of Acknowledgement of Satisfactory Training in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery from the ASMBS (American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery) in 2013.

Dr. Keilani has authored several peer-reviewed publications in his field and is currently a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Keilani is also a member of ASMBS, SAGES (The Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons), the AMA (American Medical Association), and the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society. Additionally, Dr. Keilani is presently a member of the ASMBS Emerging Technologies & Procedures Committee and has previously worked alongside other bariatric surgeons in Kentucky and Ohio to establish a local ASMBS chapter.

Dr. Keilani performs a wide scope of general surgical procedures with an emphasis on complex laparoscopic surgeries such as laparoscopic gastric, intestinal, colo-rectal, spleen, and adrenal surgeries. Dr. Keilani also performs laparoscopic repair of inguinal and ventral hernias, repair of complex ventral hernias with component separation, laparoscopic gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, band surgery, and revisional bariatric surgery. Dr. Keilani also performs upper and lower endoscopies, as well as breast surgery for benign and malignant diseases.
