Joe Robinson brought over 20 years of experience as a physician assistant when he accepted an appointment with the Department of Surgery in 2007. Most recently a surgeon assistant with the Department of Neurological Surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, South Carolina, he’s also been employed by Southern Neurologic Institute, Aiken, South Carolina; Moore Orthopaedic Clinic, West Columbia, South Carolina; and Thoracic Cardiovascular Associates, Columbia, South Carolina. On assignment with TravCorps Orthopaedics, he served at Northern Navajo Medical Center, Shiprock, New Mexico; Waterbury Memorial Hospital, Waterbury, Connecticut; and Memorial Hospital, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Serving five years in the United States Army, Robinson was a medical specialist at Hawley Army Hospital, Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indianapolis, Indiana; and a surgical technologist at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington D.C. His recognition in the military included Honor Graduate of the Basic Combat Medical Specialist Class and Distinguished Honor Graduate of the the Surgical Technologist Class.
The son of a female orthopedic surgeon and a urologist, Robinson is also the grandson and nephew of general practitioners. He continued the family tradition in health care, receiving a bachelor of science in allied health and a surgeon assistant certification from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Birmingham, Alabama. He is a licensed South Carolina Physician Assistant, and has special interests in brain tumors, traumatic brain injury, and motion disorders. He is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the American Academy of Nuerosurgery Physician Assistants.
