Biography Dr. John Walsh joined the University of South Carolina School of Medicine faculty in 1999 after completing a hand surgery fellowship at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. He previously served as Clinic Director and Staff Orthopaedic Surgeon at Moncrief Army Community Hospital, Fort Jackson, South Carolina.
A graduate of the University of Delaware, Newark, Delaware, Dr. Walsh received a bachelor of arts in biology. He earned a doctor of medicine from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and completed an orthopaedic surgery residency and a transitional internship at Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Fort Gordon, Georgia. He is board certified in orthopaedic surgery and has a Certificate of Added Qualification in surgery of the hand.
Dr. Walsh has lectured internationally on a broad range of general orthopaedic and upper extremity surgical conditions. He is a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and the Christian Medical Society. His primary interests are hand and upper extremity surgery, joint replacement of the shoulder and elbow, and reconstructive osteotomies for bone deformity. He is also interested in reconstruction for brachial plexus injuries.
