The Department of Family and Preventive Medicine is a family-oriented medical
practice offering complete health care for children and adults, including obstetrical
care for expectant mothers. Comprehensive care is provided by physicians, family
nurse practitioners and psychologists, along with our dietitian, certified diabetes
educator and pharmacologist.
Tucked into the heart of a residential neighborhood close to the School of
Medicine, the Family Practice Center combines the convenience of a community
health center with the technology and resources necessary to treat a broad range
of illness and injury. Procedures performed at the Family Practice Center include
casting and splinting, minor surgery, IUD fitting and vasectomy. We also provide
diagnostic tests that include colonoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy (to view
the colon), exercise stress testing, colposcopy (to study the cervix) and naso-pharyngoscopy
(to examine the nose and throat).
Psychological services include individual, marital and family psychotherapy
sessions. Sports medicine services are available through our partnership with
the USC Sports Medicine Center. Lab, x-ray and pharmacy services are also available,
as well as smoking cessation, diabetes education and weight loss classes.
We understand that keeping people healthy goes beyond our role of diagnosing
and treating acute and chronic illnesses. That’s why we put a strong emphasis
on health maintenance, disease prevention, and patient education through classes,
lectures, and public service activities.
