The physicians in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology provide a full
range of general obstetric and gynecological services, as well as specialized
care in maternal-fetal medicine (high risk pregnancies). We provide consultation
and treatment in urogynecology and pediatric and adolescent gynecology, and manage
women’s health care during menopause. Our physicians are also skilled in
advanced gynecological procedures that are not widely available.
Diagnostic resources include gynecological ultrasound and saline infusion
sonography (to diagnose abnormalities of the endometrium). Our obstetricians
use chorionic villus sampling (a procedure that samples a small portion of the
developing placenta), amniocentesis, and high resolution ultrasound (which provides
detailed imaging for suspected birth defects).
Our Division of Genetics is home to the Midlands Region Medical Genetic Center,
providing a wide array of clinical genetic services. The Division of Genetics
offers genetic counseling, prenatal marker screening (to detect birth defects),
and laboratory genetic testing for cancer, leukemia, birth defects, infertility,
pregnancy loss, and prenatal diagnosis of inherited disorders.
